Cairns

I began my free day in Cairns relaxed with a sleep-in. 🙂 Then I had breakfast before I went for a walk around the city to get myself orientated. It was cloudy but nice. Do you know what was the most obvious sign that after weeks I am back in a bigger city?

The traffic lights! They’re as shitty up here as in Sydney and Brisbane, only here there is less traffic and the chance of being run over when crossing a red light is lower :D.

To Cairns, finally

When I was back at the hostel after the skydive the first thing I did was to watch the movie and the photos. Then I uploaded them, converted the video and uploaded that as well. Unfortuantely facebook could not process it :S what a waste of traffic. I tried 2 more times and it never worked. In between I had dinner and talked a bit to the 2 canadian girls in my room. While waiting for the upload to complete I watched series.

Skydive Mission Beach

Before I say/write anything, watch this video:

That explains pretty much everything 😀

I jumped out of a perfectly good aeroplane in 14,000 feet, that’s about 4.2 km. It was two times higher than the clouds that day.

Whitsunday Islands

I got up at 6AM, but halfway during my check-out procedure I realized I was one hour early! Luggage storage wouldn’t be available before 7:30 and boarding time for the sailing was at 8:30. I was already up and dressed, so I went down to the lagoon to watch the sunrise.

Airlie Beach

After my second night in Agnes Water I had to get up really early because the bus left at 7 AM.

It was a big bus with comfortable leather seats. At a short break after about 2 hours our driver was informed that the highway we had to use was blocked 70 kilometers further up because a huge truck had an accident. Our driver tried to confirm that with lots of calls, but he couldn’t know for sure.

1770 / Agnes Water

Around 2pm we arrived in Agnes Water. The driver gave us a quick tour through the town then dropped me off at 1770 Backpackers. I checked in with a few scottish people that were already in my dorm in Rainbow Beach. We dropped our luggage in the room and went to the beach to sunbake. I was the only one who went for a swim. Later in the afternoon I went back to the room, showered and went back out to buy some food.

And then I was shocked! more »

Bundaberg

Got up at 6am, showered, packed, had a quick pankage breakfast ast 7 and checked out immediately afterwards. At 7:30 I left with the OzEx for the town of 1770. It’s named so because that year James Cook set foot for the first time on what would later become the state of Queensland.

Rainbow Beach

It is called “Rainbow” Beach for a reason: the coloured sands that you can see from the beach.
There is an aboriginal story and a scientific one. I will explain to you neither 😛

Fraser Island

I had booked a 3day/2night tour across Fraser Island.

“K’gari” as it is called by the Aborigines means “Paradise”. This name describes it quite well 😀
