Noosa is a beautiful place and so it doesn’t hurt that I am stuck here for 2 more days/nights than I had anticipated.

The reason for that is my Fraser Island trip – it only departs on certain days, and the next available one was Saturday while I was only booked in at Noosa until Wednesday. So here is my story about Noosa πŸ™‚

Monday

I had set my alarm to 7am! I had breakfast and then met with Janine who works the hostel’s travel office. For about an hour we discussed the possibilites for my remaining east coast trip and started putting together a package. Then she had to drive the courtesy bus where I hopped on as well. From the Noosa transit centre I took a bus to Sunrise Beach where I met Nicole. We walked along Sunrise Beach and then Sunshine Beach before we entered the Noosa National Park. We did some thorough hiking until we reached Alexandria Bay.

We spent some time there and I had an extended swim. People are recommended not to go swimming there, but I am an experienced swimmer and had heaps of fun with the currents and the waves πŸ™‚

We continued the hike until we reached Hell’s Gates, rough cliffs on the corner of the park. It was a spectacular view and we sat down for lunch.

After lunch we finished the tour and ended up in Noosa Heads. We sat down for a while and I showed Nicole what I was about to book with my travel package, then we said goodbye and took our separate buses home. At the hostel I called my good friend Sara in Germany to get rid of my remaining cap+ balance that was about to expire. While talking I walked around in the hostel’s central outside space, and while doing so Sepp walked into the hostel. And he had even been assigned to the same room as me. πŸ™‚

Short time later we (and a few german Girls Sepp had met on the pickup bus) walked to the Aldi which is within walking distance to our hostel to buy food for dinner. I had found half a package of flour and a not yet empty bottle of maple sirup in the free food box, so I bought eggs, milk and caster sugar to make pancakes. They were delicious πŸ™‚

After dinner we talked a little before we did the washing up and went into our rooms. Watched another episode of Sanctuary and Castle before I went to bed. Still had to recover from the hard week of wwoofing before. And going out for drinks is too expensive here to do it more often.

Tuesday

This morning I slept in until around 9am. After breakfast Sepp and I used our hostel’s free surboard hire and went on the courtesy bus to the beach. When we arrived the waves where rarely existant because of low tide, but half an hour later we had more than we could wish for.

I had trouble with my board. The hostel only has these beginner softboards. They’re fine to catch the white waves, but that’s quite boring for me now. Catching green waves with such a long board was almost impossible for me, instant nosedive most the times!

I enjoyed it nevertheless, but I have to say that I preferred the much shorter hardboard I had in Surfers Paradise. Around 1pm I went on the bus back to the hostel, returned the boards, had lunch and showered. Then I took my laptop and went back to the travel office to get my travel package ready. Janine went to all the details with me, like the dates, rang up the tour operators to check for availability, put it all together, went as low as possible with the overall cost and finally booked it all in for me. Now I have an awesome travel package for the next 3 weeks πŸ™‚ My australian bank account is almost empty now, but that is okay. The package includes lots of awesome stuff, I am tempted to tell you now, but I won’t. Wait and see/read.

Wednesday

During the night and in the early morning there were heavy rainshowers outside and it was quite loud in our room. I was afraid the day would be useless, but we were lucky πŸ™‚

At 10am I met Nicole at the transit centre and we did a beautiful hike through the Noosa National Park. I tracked it with my cellphone, see this link.

Afterwards we had lunch at Sunshine Beach and then took the bus to Noosa Junction. I increased the daily limit on my Westpac card at the branch office and went shopping groceries. In the evening I cooked a proper dinner for Sepp and me: noodles, ham, mushrooms and cheese πŸ™‚
It was so much that we had some leftovers for the following day.

We got 2 more Germans in our room who only stayed one night. They were on tour with a 4WD – really cool. And finally, for the first time, I got an Aussie in my room πŸ˜€ he was from the west coast and quite talkative, just like the other 2 germans. It was nice to have them πŸ™‚

Thursday

Morning and night were as rainy as the day before, but when I got up it was sunny.

Around 11am Sepp and I took the beach to Sunrise Beach where we met Nicole and went to the beach. It was somewhat cloudy and very windy.
The beach was unpatrolled but I went swimming nevertheless. I spent about an hour in the water, enjoying the waves that were often bigger then me. When I came out and started changing back into my clothes it started raining. I hurried and we left the beach, dropped Nicole at her apartment and went back to our hostel where we had lunch. I then showered to get rid of all the sand and salt and get warm again. There were short but heavy rainshoweres again at random times so we stayed inside and spent the time with our laptops. In the early evening I made pancakes again because I had to use up the leftovers from Tuesday.

Our room got filled with english people – nice – but they were not very talkative.

Friday

I started the day with my usual check-out procedure at 8am: shower, breakfast, packing, check-out. My OzEx bus is going at 3.30pm, so I hired a bike for a couple of hours to explore Noosa better and take lovely photos for you. There is as much water as land around, and there are heaps of realestates that cost 4-5 million $AUS easily. Unfortunately I forgot to track my trip with my phone, but I plotted it on Google Maps afterwards:

I returned to my hostel around 1pm, uploaded the photos and finished this post. In an hour I’ll take the courtesy bus to the transit centre and then the OzEx to Rainbow Beach.

CYA!!
