Something I forgot to tell about the surf camp: there were games every evening where you could win prizes.
I won the cockroach race 😀 I know it sounds “ewwww”, but let me explain:
the staff people caught 6 cockroaches and painted them in different colours on the back. We were put into groups of 4 and had to pick a colour. On the ground was a small circle and a big one around it. The cockroaches were put in the center and the one who reached the outer circle first won.
Now there were 6 cockroaches. In the first round the last 3 got sorted out. I had to catch our cockroach (named “Harry” by the dutch girls in my team) with a sheet of paper and put it back into the box for the second round, because Harry made it as one of the first 3.
In the second round Harry raced on and won! So our team was the winner. But only one person could get a prize, so we had to play rock-paper-scissors against each other. I won these matches and could then pick a prize. I decided to choose the free snorkling trip at Byron Bay 🙂 another guy from the staff, the one who went to the Kangaroo Golf with us, had recommended to pick that in case we would win. The alternatives would have been free surfboard hire or discount on a surf lesson.
I’m in Byron Bay now and tomorrow I will try to redeem the voucher for that snorkling trip. Thanks to Harry the cockroach! 😀
