On the way home from my previous exploration we stopped by at the huge Garzweiler Surface Mine that is digging it’s way closer and closer towards my beloved hometown.
They’ve been digging for over 30 years and they will continue for another 30 years at least. They produce 35-45 million tons of lignite each year. The german Wikipedia page offers much more information, while I offer my photos here. It’s the first time I could make really good use of my zoom lense 🙂
