For a weekend I visited my friend Bron in Hobart, Tasmania and she showed me around.
Early Saturday morning I flew over, the flight takes less than 1.5 hours. The plane has hardly reached its final height when it starts to descent again.
Bron picked me up at the airport and we startet our tour to the old convict settlement of Port Arthur. Along the way we stopped at many beautiful places of the Tasman Peninsula. After a guided tour through Port Arthur and a harbour cruise we went out to have dinner. Since we still had plenty of time before the lantern ghost tour that we had booked we drove around the island and walked along a few nice beaches.
The ghost tour was nice, but too much fiction and too little facts for my taste. We arrived back at Bron’s place close to midnight.
The next morning at 10 am we did a jetboat ride on the Derwent river. The minimum amount of people for the ride was 2, and we were the only ones. Private tour – lucky! Jetboating is awesome fun! Check this out to get an idea.
Afterwards we drove back to Hobart and had lunch at the Salamanca markets before we walked around the harbour. At 1 pm we met our guides and other people to do a bike ride down Mount Wellington. The weather was absolutely awesome and we had a stunning view from the top of the mountain. And then we started our way down, 22 km. I tracked the whole tour with my phone and can tell you now that I reached a top speed of 60 km/h on the bicycle. Amazing! In between there was an optional offroad part that was challenging and great fun, too.
Afterwards we went back to Bron’s place for a bit before we went out to get fish&chips for take-away and sat down opposite the harbour with a lovely view of Mt Wellington. And then the weekend was already over and Bron dropped me at the airport. A bit of waiting, a short flight, another bit of waiting and then Andrew and Steph picked me up at the Melbourne Airport, we arrived home by midnight.
Of course I took heaps of photos, enjoy:
