It is a long journey home from Auckland. 2 12-hour flights from Auckland to Seoul and Seoul to Frankfurt, then ~ 2.5 hours of driving back to Erkelenz.
Luckily I had a night at a fancy hotel in Incheon included with my Korean Air flight because the stopover was about 18 hours. When I arrived at Incheon International Airport I went to the Korean Air counter and they put me on a shuttle bus to the Best Western Premier Songdo Park Hotel where I had a private room and buffet for dinner and breakfast.
It was the best accomodation I have had all year! It was awesome! And to make it even better, they gave me unlimited highspeed internet via ethernet cable. I got download speeds of up to 8 MByte/second, which means I must have had at least a 70 MBit connection! Needless to say I made good use of that 😀 especially after the crappy internet connections in New Zealand where you had to pay a fortune for 100MB of traffic.
I slept quite well and the next morning I had a delicious breakfast on the top floor (#19) with a nice view over Incheon. Unfortunately the weather was still crap. Around 10.30 am I was brought back to the airport where I could jump the queue and just drop of my luggage again since I had already checked in and gotten my ticket in Auckland.
As mentioned earlier the flight was 12 hours, but due to the time difference I took of at 2 pm and landed at 6 pm, hence I had a very long day.
Back at the airport I was picked up by my dad and my girlfriend Sara. Needless to say we all were more than happy to be reunited.
And that’s it, year abroad: 100% complete!
Here are the last photos of my year-long trip.
